Wooden steering wheels

Each type of steering wheels has some critical points.

Steering wheels like the Nardi, have a laminated mahogany rim. Basically, they are made of few millimeters mahogany laths, steam-bent and glued together in order to form two parts with cylinder sections. By milling, these sections are rounded to the final shape.

Sometimes it happens that between the various laths which compose the rim, the bonding cracks. In this case the restoration produce, in many cases, very satisfactory results.

However, if the damages are very important, it is still possible to evaluate the replacement of the entire rim, as required on the steering wheel of Jaguar E-Type shown in the photos above.
